Trekking is a physical activity that consists of walking on trails in natural environments, such as mountains, forests and deserts. It is a way to explore nature, exercise and test your own limits, and can be done over varying distances, from short walks to multi-day expeditions, all depending on the endurance of the person doing it.
The tour can be done individually, with the guide or shared, in groups. As it is a free route tour with no exact trail, it can take different forms, lengths and durations.
One of the most fascinating and revealing experiences is certainly trekking through the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, crossing its extensive dune field amidst paradisiacal scenery. It is certainly a unique experience in the world, where contact with nature provides purification of the mind and spirit.
The tour usually lasts 3 to 5 days (it can cover around 35 to 80 kilometers) going from Atins to Santo Amaro, passing through the communities of Baixa Grande, Queimada dos Britos and Betânia. Walks of around 7 hours a day between crystal-clear lagoons in the middle of the desert, with stops and overnight stays in some breathtaking oases.
Meals and overnight stays are served in the homes of native families in the region, where you can experience the local community by sleeping in hammocks in straw huts along the way.
At the end of the tour, between Betânia and Santo Amaro, instead of walking, you can also go by boat or canoe across the Rio Grande, a few hours of relaxing, refreshing and renewing to end this unforgettable experience with a flourish.
